Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver
Pre-requisits: Minimum age of 15 years old by the water phase of the course (Junior certification for ages 10-14 years is allowed as well). Must be certified as a NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver or the equivalent in another dive organization.
The NAUI instructor is to ensure adequate student knowledge and capability before any open water training and shall use skill or other evaluations to do so. One open water dive (that does not count toward the minimum number required for the course) may be used as a screening and evaluation dive. This is not required when the student’s diving proficiencies are well known to the instructor.
Equipment Required: Compass, dive slate, and dive flashlights are required for advanced certification dives and can be purchased from us at the student rate. In addition, students are encouraged to start furnishing and being responsible for the care and maintenance of their own diving equipment.
Cost: $550 includes open water training, e-learning, and rental gear as needed. Price excludes open water air fills.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Full participation in dive planning processes, including the ability to prepare and present dive plans for unique locations and purposes with a greater understanding of dive planning, equipment preparation and care, and buddy diving.
Greater understanding of fitness, stress, individual limitations, fatigue, exposure, and diving adaptations.
Greater understanding of rough water, limited visibility, and dive/abort decision making.
Greater understanding of weight use, suit compression compensation, breathing patterns as related to buoyancy control, and descent and ascent control.
Ability to assume a leadership role during the dive.
Greater understanding of communication, instrument use, and navigation.
Greater understanding of environmental aspects and diving skills that minimally impact the environment.
Greater understanding of rescues and assists, emergency system, and actions.
