Open Water Scuba Diver
Pre-requisits: Minimum age of 15 years old by the water phase of the course (Junior certification for ages 10-14 years is allowed as well). There is no certification required to enter this course.
Equipment Required: Mask, snorkel, fins and booties. These can be purchased through the shop at a student rate.
Cost: $595 includes training, e-learning, and rentals for confined water training. Price excludes open water air fills.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Understanding of scuba diving physics, physiology, and medical aspects as they relate to a diver’s performance and safety in the water.
Understanding of diving equipment, purpose, features, types and uses of recreational skin and scuba equipment.
Ability to select, use, and care for mask, snorkel, fins, BCD, weight system, scuba cylinder, regulator, submersible pressure gauge, and alternate air source, dive computer, exposure suit, and any other basic equipment dictated by local conditions.
Understanding of aspects that impact a diver’s safety including emergency procedures, rescue and first aid, underwater communications, basic underwater navigation, dive planning, and safety measures.
Understanding of the physical and biological aspects of the environment where open water training is conducted and an ability to recognize potential hazards before entering the water.
Understanding of the importance of conservation and the kinds of both negative and positive impacts divers can have on the environment.
Understanding of diving activities, continuing education through NAUI training courses, and dive logging.
